About Gate City Lodge # 42![]() History of Gate City Lodge #42On December 30, 1887 AD., 5887 A.L., a charter was granted to Tilman Lodge # 19 under the hand and seal of the Most Worshipful Grand Master John D. Campbell. TL 19 had the following officers:
Two years later in the year 1889 A.D., 5889 A.L. a petitition was made to the Most Worhsipful Union Grand Lodge Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, for the state of GA (held in the Masonic Hall, N. Broad st, ATL, GA; July 1st thru July 4th 1889 A.D.,5889 A.L.) for the dispensation to change the name Tilman Lodge #19 to Gate City Lodge #42. The dispensation was granted July 3rd, 1889 A.D., 5889 A.L. at the Most Worhsipful Grand Lodge under the leadership of:
Gate City Lodge #42 continued to meet and operate under the original charter issued to Tilman Lodge #19 until PM Lawrence Johnson recognized this omission. In june 1989 A.D., 5989 A.L. PM Lawrence Johnson petitioned the Most Worshipful Grand Master X.L. Neal, the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge for the Jurisdiction of Georgia for the charter that was never issued with our new name properly affixed. The request was amde at the Grand Lodge communication in the city of Augusta. The following year, in the month of June 1990 A.D., 5990 A.L. in the city of Columbus the Warrant and Charter committee of the Grand Lodge of Georgia recommended that Gate City Lodge #42 be issued the duplicate charter from the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Georgia. In June 1991 A.D., 5991 A.L. in the city of Jekyll, the duplicate charter was presented to PM James Johnson, Jr. by the Most Worshipful Grand Master the Honorable Neal A. McQueen of the Jurisdiction of GA.
